A Quick Question
I’m in Pontchatoula without power and working off a battery power, so I don’t have time to search the Internet for the answer to a question. Has anybody heard anything about Mississippi not cooperating with our evacuation efforts? I briefly heard yesterday about some sort of closure or obstruction near the tunnel on I-10 before the Mobile Bay Bridge, and I half-heard something this morning that Haley Barbour did or didn’t do. I heard from people who were on the road that traveling east on I-10 was insane yesterday, and if it stays this difficult, people are going to start opting to ride out storms rather than face the effort involved in evacuating.
The bigger point is the whole boy-who-cried wolf, political issue (Nagin, Bush, McCain, Jindal etc.). I actually heard a local newscaster, late on Saturday, can’t remember which channel, mention the political dimension to the evacuation order. No one will trust them again. They (media across the board) are in the same bed. I wonder what will happen when the real “Mother of All Storms” is actually approaching… I also wonder, who pays for all this?
